Sample Recipe - Animal Sandwiches
Ingredients:
Bread
Sandwich Spread( Peanut Butter and jelly, pimento cheese etc.)

With an animal cookie cutter, cut three identical shapes of each animal from pieces of bread.  Spread sandwich mixture on two shapes and top with the third piece of bread.  Stand up the prepared sandwiches on a flat plate.  Surround them with pieces of lettuce or spinach.

  • Discuss the similarities and differences of animals.  Depending on the age of the children, you may introduce the classes of animals.  Make a group K-W-L chart of facts they Know, and what they Want to know .  Gather animal books for the group and have them work in pairs to research additional animal facts.  Write these facts under the column for L, for what they Learned.

  • Make a class booklet of funny animal facts

  • Play “What Animal”! Write the names of 20 different animals, each on a single index card.  One child comes to the front of the group and selects a card.  He or she has to act out that animal without using any sounds.  The other children guess what animal is being depicted.  Once the animal is guessed, another child comes up and picks the next card.
